Sub-processors
BookDesignerAI (operated by Expert Book Design LLC) uses third-party service providers ("sub-processors") to operate the Service. We disclose them here in the interest of transparency and in keeping with EU/UK GDPR Article 28(2) and similar requirements in other jurisdictions. We have data-processing agreements or equivalent contractual protections in place where applicable.
Each sub-processor receives only the data necessary to perform the service we engaged them for. None is authorized to use your data for any purpose other than providing that service, and none of the AI providers we use trains its models on your manuscript or outputs. We do not sell your personal data to any sub-processor or other third party.
AI providers and models
BookDesignerAI uses artificial-intelligence models to read, analyze, format, edit, and design. The Service uses the following AI providers and models. We continually evaluate models for quality, cost, safety, and privacy, and may add or substitute providers as the technology evolves — this page will be updated if we do:
- Anthropic (Claude models) — manuscript analysis, copyediting, interior layout and cover-design intelligence, and support chat.
- Black Forest Labs (FLUX image models) — cover artwork generation, accessed via the Replicate model-inference platform.
Only the data necessary for the requested task is sent to an AI provider — typically manuscript text excerpts, rendered layout images, book metadata, a cover brief, or chat messages. Generated output is returned to us and stored in your project. We select providers that contractually agree not to use your data to train their models.
Operational sub-processors
The following providers support the operational infrastructure of the Service:
| Provider | Location | Purpose | Data accessed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application hosting & database | USA | Application hosting and managed database. | All customer data persisted by the Service (account records, projects, drafts, purchase history, file metadata). Encrypted at rest. |
| Object storage / backup | USA (global edge) | Backup object storage for manuscript files and generated outputs. | Customer-uploaded manuscripts, generated PDF/DOCX/ePub, cover artwork. Encrypted at rest. |
| PayPal, Inc. | USA | Payment processing for one-time purchases, subscriptions, and refunds. | Transaction amount, customer name, billing email, transaction identifier. We never store credit-card numbers. PayPal's own privacy policy applies. |
| Transactional email | USA | Password reset, order and service notifications, and customer support. | Recipient email address and message content. No marketing email is sent through this provider. |
Hosting and data residency
The Service's primary infrastructure is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States and the United States locations of the sub-processors above. Where required by law (e.g., EU/EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent legal mechanisms for international data transfers.
Changes to this list
If we add or change a sub-processor, we will update this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes that affect how customer personal data is processed will be reflected on this page. For customers on data-processing agreements that require advance notice of sub-processor changes, we will notify you by email; otherwise, the updated list on this page is the authoritative notice.
