Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines content and conduct that is not permitted on the BookDesignerAI Service. The AUP is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. We apply this policy both to protect our customers and to comply with the policies of the third-party AI providers whose services we use.
If you upload, generate, or attempt to process content that violates this AUP, we may refuse to process the content, suspend or terminate your account without refund, retain reasonable evidence for legal compliance, and where required by law, report the matter to appropriate authorities.
1. Strictly prohibited content
You may not use the Service to create, upload, or attempt to process any of the following:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any sexual content depicting, describing, or involving minors. We report suspected CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by U.S. federal law.
- Content that promotes or facilitates violent extremism, terrorism, or mass-casualty events.
- Targeted harassment, doxing, or threats directed at a specific individual or group.
- Content that incites imminent violence or unlawful action against a specific person, group, or place.
- Material that infringes third-party copyrights or other intellectual-property rights — for example, uploading a manuscript that is not yours to publish.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery or non-consensual sexual content involving real persons ("deepfake porn" or similar).
- Material designed to facilitate fraud, identity theft, or unauthorized access to computer systems.
- Content that violates U.S. export-control laws or U.S. economic sanctions, including content involving sanctioned persons or entities.
- Content that the AI providers we work with have flagged as prohibited under their own usage policies. We pass uploads to these providers; violations of their policies can cause our access to be revoked, which would harm all our customers.
2. Restricted use cases
Some content and use cases are not strictly prohibited but require additional care. We may decline to process material that falls into these categories, or may require additional verification:
- Real personal information about third parties — biographies, memoirs, exposés, journalism — should be accurate, not defamatory, and respect privacy laws applicable to you and your subject. If your manuscript names living people, you are responsible for the legal and ethical implications of publishing those statements.
- Medical, legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice presented in book form — you are responsible for any required disclaimers and regulatory compliance.
- Sexual content involving adults — permitted in literary fiction, memoir, and adult-romance categories where the writing is between consenting adult characters and the content is not gratuitous beyond the conventions of the genre. The AI providers we work with may decline to process certain explicit material; if a generation fails, we are not able to override that decision on your behalf.
- Religious, political, or controversial content — permitted. We do not refuse a manuscript on the basis of its viewpoint. We do refuse content that crosses into incitement, harassment, or other prohibited categories above.
3. Account and access conduct
In addition to the content rules above, you agree not to:
- Use the Service to attempt to overwhelm, degrade, or interfere with the operation of the Service or any AI provider's API.
- Attempt to circumvent the Service's pricing, refund, or pass-counting controls (for example, using shared accounts to multiply free passes or chargeback after delivery).
- Reverse-engineer the Service, scrape large volumes of content from it, or use it to build a competing product.
- Use the Service to test, probe, or scan for vulnerabilities without our prior written consent. Vulnerability research conducted in good faith and reported to cantos@bookdesigner.ai is welcome.
- Use the Service to send spam, phishing, or other unsolicited bulk content.
- Attempt to log in to or otherwise access an account that is not yours.
- Use automation, bots, or scripts to bypass rate limits or to interact with the Service in a way that is inconsistent with normal human use.
4. AI-output review responsibility
The Service uses AI providers to generate output based on your inputs. AI output is probabilistic and may include errors, factual inaccuracies, omissions, or stylistic choices you disagree with. You are responsible for reviewing all AI-generated output before publication. If your manuscript contains factual claims about real people, places, or events, you must verify those claims independently before publishing. If your cover artwork resembles a real person, you are responsible for any rights-of-publicity implications.
5. Reporting violations
If you believe content on the Service violates this AUP, or you believe you have been the target of a violation (for example, your work has been plagiarized), report the matter to cantos@bookdesigner.ai with the relevant details. We review reports promptly and act on them as appropriate.
If you believe a manuscript on the Service is CSAM, you may also report directly to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
6. Enforcement
Violations of this AUP are not always obvious from inputs alone; we may rely on a combination of automated screening, AI-provider safety classifiers, and human review. Our response is generally proportional to the severity of the violation:
- Minor or accidental violations — warning and an opportunity to remediate.
- Moderate violations — refusal to process the specific content or temporary suspension of the account.
- Serious violations or repeat offenses — account termination without refund and, where required by law, reporting to authorities.
For CSAM and similar absolutely-prohibited content, we act immediately and without notice.
7. Changes
We may update this AUP from time to time, particularly as the policies of our AI providers evolve. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date and will take effect upon posting.
8. Contact
Questions about this AUP, requests for clarification on whether a specific use case is permitted, and reports of violations should be sent to cantos@bookdesigner.ai.
